Memories’ Mist
by Caroline Cox for Philip West Ulrey, her brother

The old, well-used lab chair acts as a memento of my brother Philip West Ulrey’s very real life, full of shining promise as a Ph. D. candidate at Cal Tech. Although he died 52 years ago, my memories still come back, as grounded as the lab chair, stark as the rifle, swathed by a grief, a mourning most of all for the death of friendship that could have lived between us.
